GREECE PELOPONNESE ARGOLIS KIVERI KIVERI-MYLOI

Bob Consoli drew my attention to a "lost" LH III chamber tomb (maybe even three) excavated by Nikolaos Verdelis in 1957 near the junction of the Argos-Tripolis road and the road to Kiveri. I started my search on the West side of the junction because it seemed more probable that tombs were built there on the slope of the hill facing the Argolic Gulf than on the other side where the land is very flat. What I found was a circular depression about 2 m in diameter, filled with earth, stones and clay fragments. However, there is no sign of a dromos so the identification remains uncertain.

Among the fill I found a sherd (below: exterior and interior side). Its curvature seems to be uniform, indicating a diameter of the vase of about 18 cm. It could be a fragment of a small amphora or of an alabastron.

Above left: There are some remains in this area that I assume, without further information, to be medieval or later. - Below: In 2022 I found only very dubious remains in this region that I would not dare to call remains of Mynenaean chamber tombs.
